McGee calls PureSystems “optimized private clouds with a self service user interface” that enables app deployment without user involvement with the operating system, middleware or the “complex typologies” that are usually required. Instead, apps are deployed through Pure Applications “patterns” built on ISV partner and IBM expertise that automatically provision required infrastructure. Some of the SaaS patterns have also been made available through Smart Cloud, IBM’s public cloud service, to further simplify app consumption. The desired result is app access that is as close to the Apple platform three click model as is possible (according to biographer and Impact 2012 keynote speaker, Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs required that it be possible to do everything in Apple within three clicks).
