HP’s Converged Cloud

Delivery of the ability to accommodate multiple, mixed cloud deployment models provides what HP is hoping will be a key differentiator for the company in what is becoming an increasingly crowded cloud space. As Ngai noted, HP's Converged Cloud has been built on OpenStack technology “where it makes sense,” with company IP layered on top, to give customers who are building their own private clouds or looking to integrate cloud with existing legacy systems additional interoperability and flexibility. To compete in today’s market, another requirement that is becoming table stakes for vendors looking to act as the cloud destination for customers is supply of a range of cloud services. On this score, HP cloud IP has produced a broad portfolio of offerings that cover the gamut of cloud services, beginning with IaaS and SaaS and now including PaaS. Summarizing portfolio capabilities, Ngai suggests “think horizontal” across the various deployment models (public, private, managed, traditional IT), and “think vertical” to encompass infrastructure-as-a-service, application-as-a-service and information-as-a-service. And then think that these have been “integrated by design” to offer a “consistent consumption experience” whatever the customer adoption profile or maturity level and then you will have Converged Cloud. – an ambitious agenda indeed!
